Particularly during the humid summer months, basement dampness is most prevalent.  Moisture can cause a myriad of issues including paint damage, rust, rotting, bug infestations, an unpleasant odor, and even the loss of a building’s structural integrity and durability.

Also, the growth of biological substances, like mould and mildew, can lead to a variety of health problems.  Health Canada associates mould, which releases spores into the air that can then be breathed in, with irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat, coughing, breathing problems, symptoms of asthma, and allergic reactions.  And basement dampness does not only affect air quality in the basement, but has a huge impact throughout the whole house.

In the past, portable units offered some help with reducing the effects of basement dampness, but only in a very limited area and capacity.  Maintaining them could be bothersome also, having to remember to empty the container for the unit to continue doing its’ job, and clean it of the inevitable grime buildup.

Filters Canada suggests that the FanAir system far surpasses what humidifiers could do in the past.  First of all, it produces results throughout the entire house, up to 1500 square feet of basement and 1500 square feet of above ground surface.  It is easily controlled by a state of the art computer PC board and humidity sensor that has a detection accuracy of plus/minus 1% of relative humidity.

By evacuating stale air and keeping humidity at a comfortable level, it removes condensation from windows and reduces mould, mildew, odor, and structural damage, while improving air quality.  With automatic summer/winter settings of 200 to 210 CFM at high speed and 60 CFM at low speed, and no water to be emptied, the unit is maintenance free

When it comes to energy efficiency, this system continues to surpass expectations.  With a 115V cord, at 48W consumption, costs are equivalent to $3.60 per month at $0.10 per kW/H, the unit consuming less power than a 60 watt light bulb.  And as it circulates air from the upper level to the basement, heating and air conditioning costs are also reduced.

The installation process is simple and does not require hiring a professional or the use of a drain hose.  The product comes complete with a standard 6”air outlet, hardware, and a detailed instruction manual to help you install it yourself.  The Burcam can also fit into a crawl space and be installed in conjunction with combustion appliances according to the manual’s instructions.

To demonstrate their confidence in the Burcam FanAir System, the manufacturer’s, who are esteemed by industry professionals for their innovative and quality products, stand behind their product by also offering a five year warranty upon purchase.  Consider if this might be a major part of your solution for combating and/or preventing the havoc basement moisture can play on your health and the value of your home.
